ra niänÿ
ra niänÿ, the Otomi translation of « conversations », is a dialogue between different hands and languages. The artwork is the result of a collaboration with Mexican craftswoman Arisbeth Gonzales, invited by Galerie du 19m.
The conversation begins with Clémence Vazard’s natural dyeing practice, as she selects local and seasonal flowers and accompanies them to express their colorful powers, their aura on a 5-meter-long recycled linen fabric. The color palette represents the autumnal season in which the collaboration and creation of the work take place.
Arisbeth Gonzales then enters into conversation with the dyed textile through her language of traditional Otomi embroidery, named after the ancestral Mexican people whose culture is listed as an Intangible World Heritage Site. The dialogue between the two artistic languages is a natural one, since they are directly inspired by wild flora. The conversation was then opened up to the public, who were invited in turn to embroider symbolic elements of wild or imaginary flora onto the participatory work.
ra niänÿ weaves together nature and people, revealing the interdependence of all living beings.
