55 Minutes
55 is the average number of minutes a woman spends each day taking care of her appearance.* Alerted by this statistic, Clémence Vazard made a video in which she staged herself, gluing and then peeling off a plaster covered with lipstick on her mouth. The artist thus manifests the impossibility of expressing her singularity, trapped in the boxes of the norms of representation.
Placed behind a one-way mirror, the original 14-second video is slowed down to 55 minutes. The video is activated when a person comes to watch him/herself in what seems to be a simple mirror.
The spectator is invited to sit in front of a dressing table, a piece of furniture representing the time spent taking care of our physical appearance, to watch the video for 55 minutes. Everyone can thus become aware of time, which soon becomes unbearable, absurd.
